My review on Wipeout HD was published in the new issue of the Eludamos journal. It is called Pure Hardcore? - wipEout HD and current game design.

This review highlights the changes made for the futuristic racing game Wipeout HD. Once deemed a hardcore game the Wipeout series has since broadened its appeal. The game's state of the art audio integration and the subtle changes to its gameplay are highlighted in the context of contemporary game design.

I’m very happy that my dissertation ‘Playing Music - Theory, Practice, and Design of Music-based Games’ is almost finished. It just went through proofreading and has now been submitted to my professors. Look for the thesis to be published here in January.

I was invited to hold a lecture on computer game music at the Computer Space 2008 in Sofia, Bulgaria on October 31st.

Computer Space is a non-commercial international computer art forum.
With every passing year the forum becomes more and more popular. With nineteen editions in a row behind its back and more than 8000 participants (firms, studios or individual persons) from different countries from all over the world, today “Computer Space” is one of the biggest and most significant events for computer arts in south-east Europe.

Talk at the F.R.O.G. Vienna Games Conference 2008

I will hold a presentation on ‘Playing Music and Playing Games’ at this year’s Future and Reality of Gaming (F.R.O.G.)Vienna Games Conference held form Oct. 17th to Oct. 19th at Vienna’s Rathaus as part of the Game City.

The three days of the conference will offer a large variety of international keynote speakers as well as a broad review on the cutting edge research on the topic of gaming.

The presentations at F.R.O.G. 08 will cover topics such as theory of gaming, culture of gaming, future perspectives of the games industry, game design as well as various pedagogical issues of gaming. Main intention of the conference is to facilitate a professional and impartial discours on the topic, based on resent findings of science and research.

I just started my work as an academic advisor for the International Graduate College, a collaboration of SAE and Middlesex University.

SAE International, in association with its distinguished partners, is proud to announce the establishment of a professional Graduate College. The strength of the College is its emphasis on excellence in research project development for the creative media and associated industries.

The College was launched officially in October 2006. New postgraduate programs are being developed specifically for the IGC and online delivery, while existing courses are being upgraded and modified to suit the IGC's planned delivery methods. Over the next few months this website will be systematically updated with curriculum information regarding the range of courses, including Honours and Masters degrees as well as Doctorates.

bagatelle concrète will be displayed during the “Homo Ludens Ludens” exhibition at the LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijon, Spain, from April 18th to September 22nd 2008. Martin Pichlmair and I will be there for the opening from April 18th to the 20th.
